One foot in diameter, this little beaded sculpture tells a very old story, one we are all familiar with. The piece is composed of multicolored interlaced beaded sections that make up an asymmetrical ring shape. The sculpture’s overall dynamic texture immediately catches the eye and draws the viewer into the minute crevasses clusters of beads make up.
The right side of the sculpture encompasses a blood-red man entangled in deep forest green vines of different girths. On top of his head, are a dozen spikes about a millimeter in length. His icy blue eyes glare out at the viewer, and his thin lips match the sharp, cool intensity of his eyes. His masculine broad shoulders and sturdy torso grow into a long serpent tail embedded with brown, golden, and burgundy beads. Spotted throughout the entanglement of tail and vines, are little cherry red beads. His viperish tail streams directly towards a woman at the bottom of the ring.
The sculpture’s annular shape and cascading vines allow for easy transitions between frames, leading the viewer from the serpent’s tail to a muted green woman who looks out with dull unnoticeably blue eyes. Vines attach to the back of the woman’s head and direct attention to a rectangular flag of red bleeding into a blotch of white. Atop her head sits a mess of beige beads representing her hair. She hesitantly bites into a bright red apple. The triangular shape of the woman’s right arm leads to her chest. Her breasts are robust and protrude her body, with dull pink nipples that speckle the tips of her breasts.
Following her body downwards, her round stomach, leads to her one large leg with a single foot. Tracing up the left side of her body, to her hand with a vine infiltrating her palm. A large golden and flowing face with crystal blue eyes spreads its red lips to engulf her left hand. Thin green vines protrude through the golden face and exit the back of the face as beautiful silver strands.
These silklike strands condense to form three angels. Their bodies look like iridescent silks flowing softly in the wind. Little black caps represent their hair. The angel closest to the golden face plays a chrome-colored horn, its deep red lips press lightly against the mouthpiece. One angel flies beside him and the third follows directly behind the two. All three angels are surrounded by winding silver strands of beads that follow the circular shape of the ring.
At the very top of the ring, one of the thin silver strands connects to a green vine that interlaces with another morphed face. This face is made up of matte purple beads and has many green vines piercing through it. The left eye is obstructed by three large green colored beads, and the right eye is visible; it is deep blue with a thin strip of white beads surrounding it. The lips of the face are orange and the mouth is slightly parted. The entanglement of vines in and around the face draws the viewer to another larger vine with small red beads scattered throughout it. The thick vine approaches the red man, completing the ring and thus the story.
